The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements


The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) is an umbrella organisation which sets basic certification standards for organic agriculture worldwide.

IFOAM was founded in 1972 as the worldwide umbrella organisation of the organic agriculture movement. It has about 750 member organisations and institutions in about 100 countries around the world.

IFOAM exchanges knowledge and expertise among it's members, informs the public about organic agriculture and represents internationally the organic movement in parliamentary, administrative and policy making forums. It also has set and regularly revises the international "IFOAM Basic Standards of Organic Agriculture and Food Processing" and has Accreditation Programme to try to ensure equivalency of certification programmes worldwide.
