Some GM food in Australia are exempt from labelling
Under the Standard the following categories of foods are not required to apply for a genetically modified label:
* Food derived from an animal or other food producing-organism that has been fed on GM food.
* Highly refined foods. These foods include sugars and oils where the refining process have purified the product of GM material.
* Additives and processing aids which do not contain novel DNA or novel protein.
* Flavourings which are less than 0.1% (1g/kg) of the final product weight.
* Food intended for immediate consumption,which is prepared and sold from food premises and vending vehicles.
* Unintentional GMO contamination of any ingredient up to 1% (10g/kg).
