BEELARONG COMMUNITY FARM SEED SAVERS

We have a cabinet in the shed on the farm. Members bring in their seeds and exchange with one another, and fill up the jars with the surplus.

Regular meetings: Wednesdays 9.30am to 1pm at the community farm. Address: PO Box 350, Morningside, 4170 Farm Address: cnr of York and Beverley Streets, Morningside Activities: We have been saving seeds and using local varieties on our Community Farm. Just as one example of the benefits of local seeds, the health and vitality of the local lettuce varieties has amazed even me. We still have a lot to learn about seed saving. As many circles of people in society are starting to chat about how to bring about the shift from thinking and acting globally to locally, I'm sure knowledge about seed saving will become increasingly important. We will need to improve our seed saving as people now do seem to like what we are doing with seeds.

Had some young guys out today who took footage to go on to BRI 31, the Community TV Station and they zoomed in on some zebra black and white beans we were saving and took home a lettuce gone to seed.
