Meetings:

Quarterly, the month before each season so that we have seeds for the next planting season. We meet at different places each time so we can see one another's gardens.

Activities:

One unusual thing we have from Andrew Cox is Yakon (Polymnia sonchifolia) which is an edible rooted dahlia. It has a sweet flavour, is eaten in various ways:

- raw when it is a bit like a tasteless apple,

- sliced thinly and cooked in stir fries, when the crunchiness comes to the fore, or

- baked, when it tastes like pineapple.

We started in May 2000 and would welcome others in the area.

Our area:

Mentone is south east of Melbourne, by the sea, has sandy soil, warmer than Melbourne.
