Part of Permaculture Association of SA, we meet regularly in Adelaide visiting one another's gardens.

South Australian Seed Savers held a seed saving workshop in August 2001 at Bowden Brompton Community Centre

Topics covered were: - Loss of biodiversity - Commercial seed production and distribution - Growing grains and legumes for home garden consumption - times of planting and management of water, intensive methods.

There were practical sessions on: - Raising chillies from seed - Aspects of raising seedlings including the sterilisation of seed raising mixes and display of equipment available for home use. Notes and materials were provided to participants.

Tour of Exciting Community Gardens There was a tour of the Green Street Community Gardens with a talk on its history, its operation and its future. Snow who is about 80 has been running the gardens and gave a lively tour.

Celebration of Springtime They celebrated the coming of Spring by planting punnets of seedlings and learning cultivation tips for growing tomatoes, peppers, carrots, parsnips, peas and beans etc.

Seedy Sunday was held on April 7th, 2002 with tours of two seed producing gardens, shared lunch, talks including Jude Fanton on seed storage and local seed networks. A large table was covered with seeds and other planting material for swapping.



Future Plans:

- Develop a seed bank

- Build up a database of varieties suitable for our area, the city of Adelaide

- Co-host Seed Savers Fifteenth Annual National Conference in Adelaide last weekend of October 2002
